Here we go again — Day 3 of the BBBC, and the topic is, well… personal.
SL Bloggers – How hard do you think it is to find a relationship in SL? If you have an SL relationship, have you met in the physical world? Would you meet them? Do you think it would change your SL relationship if you met?
RL Bloggers – Would you start a relationship with someone you met online? Would you have a problem telling people that’s where you met? Do you think it’s easier to meet someone online rather than at work or at a club?
SL – A meaningful relationship? Very hard to find. No, we haven’t met yet, but yes, I would. And — I not only think a real meeting would change things, I’d expect it to. How it would change the relationship is impossible to predict.
RL – Yes; in fact, I did that once. No, I was not embarrassed about it; the social stigma once attached to such meetings died long ago. And — yes, of course it’s easier online, especially in a place like SL. You have the chance, if you’re mindful of such things, to think about and edit what you say before posting it in Chat or IM. That goes along way to alleviate shyness; in fact, it can turn self-consciousness into an asset. (Just by the way, I think dating someone you work with is a really stupid idea.)
Long version could take days to write, which isn’t the point of this exercise… and I won’t go there anyway.
